Garden at The Stanage B & B

With all the lovely rain today the flowers are looking beautiful and the bees are  very active  now the sun is out.

We filmed some bees gathering nectar in the peonies and hope you will be able to hear them buzzing and listen for the song birds in the background. Click on the link above.

The garden at The Stanage Bed and Breakfast in Telford is looking a treat at the moment.

Yesterday we at last managed to get to Rodneys Pillar. Each time we drive past this impressive range of hills with the monument on top, we say ‘must get up there soon’. Now we have and the walk of at least an hour each way, and the view were well worth the effort.

Very windy and the rain stayed away. Parked the car in the Breidden Forestry Commission car park and had our picnic on the grass.

We set off from The Stanage B and B in Telford and the drive took about 45 minutes.

The afternoon was spent in Welshpool and we really enjoyed it. Gem of a market.

England's largest working water mill

Daniels Mill has the largest waterwheel powering a corn mill that is still working in England.

The mill and waterwhell have been carefully restored and is virtually unaltered since the 18th Century. The mill has been owned by the same family for over 250 years and they are still operating the mill today.

Daniels Mill is less than 30 minutes drive from The Stanage Bed and Breakfast in Telford.

Under the Severn Valley Railway

Coffee and scones are served in the new cafe at the Mill. The flour is milled by the owners.

Flowering carnivorous plants

We have had to put two of our amazing carnivorous plants outside the house. The reason is the awful smell that is coming from them.

We have had them for 2 years and this is the first time they have flowered and they look terrific, but oh! what a nasty smell.

Let’s hope they can still attract flies and soon come back inside the house.

Our plants came from Mike King  who is having his open day at his home in Telford on Saturday 11th June and there is still  0ne en- suite room left at The Stanage B & B if you are planning to visit him that weekend.

Wightwick Manor, Wolverhampton

A great find only a 35 minute drive from The Stanage Bed and Breakfast in Telford.

Wightwick Manor is a National Trust property on the out skirts of Wolverhampton. It is full of William Morris prints and beautiful furniture.

The gardens are a delight and full of spring flowers at the time of our visit.

Beautiful Erdigg

We left The Stanage  Bed and Breakfast in Telford on Saturday in heavy rain and drove along the A5 towards Wrexham. The sun came out and we had a fantastic day exploring two National Trust properties.

The first we went to was Erdigg just south of Wrexham and just over the hour to get there by car.

The gardens at Erdigg are beautiful, even in winter, and the history of the house really fasinating. Great restaurant and shop.

We then drove to Chirk Castle, which is on the way home to Teford, and had a lovely time exploring the grounds and snowdrop walk.

Both castle and house were closed so another visit later in the year is a must. Looking forward to a re visit already.

Much Wenlock is a 15 minute drive from Lawley Village, Telford and there are plenty of other  places where fossils have been found locally.
